Philippines Eyes AI Growth with Singapore, Siemens Pact

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Philippines is actively seeking to strengthen its technological capabilities and innovation through strategic international collaborations, specifically in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI). In a recent move to bolster its commitment to technological advancement, the DTI has engaged in talks with Singapore’s Smart Nation Group, a key player in Singapore’s digital transformation efforts, to explore potential partnerships that could enhance the application of AI across various sectors in the Philippines.
During a visit to Singapore, Philippine Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual and the Smart Nation Group, which operates under the auspices of Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office, discussed opportunities for collaboration. These discussions align with the Philippines’ ambition to become a regional hub for AI innovation, as outlined in their National AI Strategy Roadmap. The roadmap includes the establishment of the country’s Center for AI Research (CAIR) next month, which aims to foster collaborative research and development in AI, support digital transformation in local businesses, and enhance public services through AI technology.
In addition to this promising venture, the DTI has also renewed its partnership with Siemens Inc. through a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in Singapore. This renewed partnership is set to further drive the Philippines’ transition into Industry 4.0 by scaling up efforts in digital industrial transformation.
These initiatives reflect the Philippines’ strong commitment to leveraging AI and digital technologies to drive economic growth, enhance competitiveness, and improve public services, positioning the country as a leader in technological innovation in the region.
