Woman Assaults Staff Over Wine Theft in Cork

Wine Store Worker Assaulted by Shoplifter on Oliver Plunkett Street

In Cork, a woman was sentenced to six months in jail for a series of thefts and assaults on shop workers. Margaret Deasy, 35, of the Cork Simon Community, targeted several stores on Oliver Plunkett Street, including The Wine Buff, Benneton, Diesel, and Penneys, stealing various items and assaulting staff. During an incident at The Wine Buff, Deasy kicked a worker and threatened her with a wine bottle after stealing. Additional charges included another assault and thefts on April 3, where she was arrested and charged by Garda Patrick Houlihan. Cork District Court Judge Mary Dorgan handed down the sentence for Deasy’s actions, which also included spitting at a security guard at Marks and Spencer.
