Indonesians Embrace AI with High Optimism
In Jakarta, AI technology is gaining popularity due to its perceived benefits, with Indonesia emerging as one of the most optimistic countries regarding AI’s future. AI, defined as the science of creating intelligent machines through complex algorithms, was first conceptualized by Alan Turing in 1947. The technology has rapidly evolved, sparking both enthusiasm and concern over its potential to aid human tasks and threaten jobs.
A survey by Ipsos indicates that optimism about AI’s impact in the next three to five years has increased globally, driven in part by the release of ChatGPT. In Indonesia, 79% of respondents are optimistic about AI, with 78% believing AI-based products and services offer more benefits than drawbacks. This optimism is higher than in countries like South Korea and Turkey, while skepticism remains in France, Belgium, and the United States.
The survey, published in Stanford University’s Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2024, also shows a growing confidence in understanding AI technology, with 84% of Indonesian respondents claiming familiarity with AI. This is contrasted by the lower understanding in Japan.
Netray Artificial Intelligence API has been introduced in Indonesia to support professional workers with tools like Netray Translate and Natural Language Processing, reflecting the nation’s high enthusiasm for AI adoption.
