Google Introduces Gemini for Enhanced Gmail Experience
Google Rolls Out Gemini AI in Gmail for Enhanced Email Management
Google has announced the general availability of its AI-powered feature, Gemini, within the Gmail side panel. This rollout includes the advanced Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which offers a longer context window and more sophisticated reasoning capabilities. Users can now leverage Gemini in both the web and mobile versions of Gmail to:
- Summarize email threads
- Suggest responses
- Assist in drafting emails
- Answer questions and locate specific information from emails and Google Drive files
Starting today, Gemini is also accessible on the Gmail mobile app for Android and iOS, providing summarized views of email threads with key highlights. This AI integration aims to streamline email management, offering features like Contextual Smart Reply and Gmail Q&A to save users time.
Gemini’s capabilities extend beyond Gmail, connecting with other Google Workspace apps such as Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. For example, users can query Gemini for information from a Google Doc and seamlessly incorporate it into email replies.
To access Gemini, users must have smart features and personalization enabled, with admins able to set this by default. On the web, Gemini can be accessed via the "Ask Gemini" button in Gmail, while mobile users can tap the "summarize this email" option.
The rollout begins on June 24 for Rapid Release domains and from July 8 for Scheduled Release domains. Gemini in Gmail is available to Google Workspace customers with specific add-ons, including Gemini Business and Enterprise, Gemini Education and Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium.
